Uprima Medication for ED

Uprima® (apomorphine hydrochloride) is the first in a new breed of impotence drugs. Uprima is a prescription medication used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction or ED. Erectile dysfunction is a condition in which a man cannot achieve an erection sufficient enough for intercourse. Uprima helps men achieve erections by stimulating the region of the brain called the hypothalamus. As a result of a dose of Uprima, the body increases the production of dopamine, an important chemical in the body that helps trigger erection.

Uprima works by triggering an area of the brain known as the hypothalamus, which stimulates production of the brain chemical dopamine, believed to be partly responsible for initiating erections.

Unlike Uprima, which works on the brain, the other oral impotence medications – Viagra® , Cialis® , Stendra® and Levitra® – are known as PDE-5 inhibitors, which work by relaxing the smooth muscles and blood vessels in the penis. This allows the blood vessels to fill with blood and produce anatural erection.

Although Uprima and the PDE-5 inhibitors produce the same end result, there are a number of differences in the medications.

Uprima is a flavored oral medication that dissolves under the tongue, and therefore goes to work faster because it is absorbed directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system.

This means that Uprima can start to take effect within five to seven minutes – almost three times faster than Viagra!

The majority of men who participated in early trials for Uprima reported a positive reaction within 15 minutes. In one study, over 60% of participants who had lived with impotence for many years said they experienced a vast improvement in sexual function and activity during the initial ten-week trial.

One of the major benefits of Uprima is that it can be taken soon after a meal without reducing its effectiveness.

The active ingredient in Uprima is apomorphine, which has been used for over a century to treat various medical conditions. Apomorphine has been used to treat Parkinson’s disease for the past thirty years.

Uprima is manufactured by TAP Pharmaceuticals and is currently available only in the UK and parts of Europe. At this stage there are no plans for the introduction of Uprima in the US.

What are the most common side-effects?

The most common side-effects recorded of those using UPRIMA are as follows:

  • Headache – 7%
  • Nausea – 7%
  • Dizziness – 4%

Uprima should not be used by patients who take medications containing ingredients that could interact with the brain chemical dopamine. These medications include some anti-depressants and anti-psychotic drugs.

Initial clinical tests indicate that patients who take medication containing nitrates have not been adversely affected by Uprima. Although the claim is yet to be validated, and researchers suggest caution should be taken, this would be an advantage for men who take medications containing nitrates for angina and other heart conditions.

The PDE-5 inhibitors (Viagra, Stendra, Cialis and Levitra) work by increasing the levels of nitric oxide in the body, which helps dilate blood vessels in the penis and produce an erection. Therefore, men who take any form of medication containingnitrates (including nitroglycerin) have not been able to sample these newer impotence medications.

  • Uprima is not a permanent “cure” for impotence (erectile dysfunction).
  • Uprima will not protect you against sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, nor will it act as a contraceptive. Protective measures should be taken to guard against these possibilities.
  • Uprima is not intended for use by women, children or men who don’t have an existing impotence problem.
  • It is not advisable to take Uprima in conjunction with any otherimpotence medication.

Possible Side Effects of Uprima

The most common side effects noted during clinical studies have been nausea, dizziness and headaches. Generally, these side effects have been very mild and short-lived.

There have been occasional reports of patients on the highest dosage of Uprima who have experienced episodes of hypotension (low blood pressure).

If you experience any reactions after taking Uprima that cause you to feel unwell or dizzy, or if you have racing heartbeat or chest pain, cease sexual activity immediately and call your doctor.
